Federal contractors and subcontractors required to hire 8% veterans and 7% of qualified individuals with disabilities

The Department of Labor announced two new Rules requiring Federal Contractors and Subcontractors to adopt annually, a benchmark, based on the national percentage of veterans in the workforce (currently 8 percent).  The other new Rule is a hiring goal that  7 percent of each job group in their workforce be qualified individuals with disabilities. These Rules update the requirements under the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974 and Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. These laws require those who do business with the Federal Government to follow the spirit and reasonable standard that they not discriminate in employment on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, national origin, disability or status as a protected veteran.  OFCCP has a Toll-Free Helpline at 1-800-397-6251.

These rules will become effective 180 days after their publication in the Federal Register.  More information is available at http://www.dol.gov/ofccp/503Rule/ and http://www.dol.gov/ofccp/VEVRAARule/ or by contacting the undersigned.
